Minnesota requires snowmobile certification

Youth Snowmobile Safety Classes

In Minnesota, all snowmobile operators who are at least 12 years of age and born after December 31st, 1976 are required to take a Minnesota-approved Snowmobile Safety Course and obtain a Snowmobile Safety Certificate before riding on public lands.

To get your Snowmobile Safety Certificate, you must first complete an online course like the one offered at www.snowmobilecourse.com.

Second, you must attend a one day class room review and riding performance course lead by trained volunteer instructors and a DNR Conservation Officer. The Itasca Driftskippers offer this one-day classroom review and field test.

- There is no pre-registration for the class.
- A DNR conservation officer will cover Minnesota snowmobile laws at 9 a.m..
